XTV (recently rebranded 'xtvonline') is the student run television station of the University of Exeter in England. Founded in 1990, it broadcasts in the Student's Union on the university's Streatham campus. In the past few years it has placed emphasis on building a strong web presence, and all programs are broadcast online. Programming is currently geared towards magazine-style and entertainment shows, but in previous years a few comedy and drama programs have been made.

Television (often abbreviated to TV, T.V., tv, or t.v.) is a common telecommunication system for broadcasting and receiving moving pictures and sound over a distance and also refer to all the aspects of television from the television set (or Internet) to the programming and transmission. The word is derived from mixed Latin and Greek roots, meaning "far sight": Greek τῆλε "tele", far, and Latin visio-n, sight (from video, vis- to see).

Since the 1950s, the television set is a common household reception device found in most families. It is now ubiquitous in most residential houses, especally in the first world, as a source of entertainment and news. Since the 1970s, videos and later digital playback systems like the DVDs have extended on its use.

A television system may be made up of components, so a screen which lacks an internal tuner is called a monitor rather than a television. A television may be built to receive different broadcast or video formats such as HDTV, Laser TV
